The study of engineering materials such as metals, alloys, polymers, ceramics, and composites. Atomic structure and arrangement; control of the microstructure and mechanical properties, solidification, cooling curves and phase diagrams, mechanical testing, and strengthening mechanisms. Laboratory includes problem-solving sessions and experiments on materials related to strengths, toughness, solidification, and metallography. Prerequisite(s): A minimum grade of "C" in all of the following: CHEM 1212K or CHEM 1310, ENGR 3233.
