An introductory survey of the field of health informatics, including the origin and development of the discipline into a profession as well as current and future trends in practice. Student orientation to the terminology used in the field as well as some of its more common applications including data quality assessment, data standards, and the regulatory framework for data privacy and confidentiality (HIPAA) are presented. Prerequisite(s): A minimum grade of "C" in HLPR 2130.
