Introduction to Global Health

This course introduces the broad and growing field of global health. The course will discuss how health and illness is defined and explore the biological, cultural, social, and political forces that influence health at the global level. This is a survey course that will explore such topics as: comparative health systems, social determinants of health, health services and quality, healthcare policy, key stakeholders, and major global health initiatives. Throughout the course, an emphasis is placed on global health ethics and issues of social justice. Prerequisite(s): Sophomore standing.
